I highly recommend yoga for any woman who is pregnant or plans to become pregnant. I practiced regularly well into my last trimester, and the benefits were profound. Not only did the stretching help ease the physical difficulties that are so common during pregnancy ,but they also helped my body remain strong, flexible and open. Sydnie was great in showing me how to modify the poses to accommodate my steadily growing girth.
On an emotional level, a regular yoga practice made it easier to accept the changes my body was going through. I was able to find beauty in my new curves and truly appreciate myself as a vessel for growing a brand-new life.
Basic yogic breathing was the key to getting me through labor. It helped so much more than the breathing techniques I learned in my childbirth preparation class. Breathing through sensation (even labor pains) didn’t require any thought, as it was something that had become second nature to me through yoga classes.
Whether you’re a long-time yoga student or have never taken a yoga class, pregnancy is a wonderful time to deepen or begin a regular practice.
