SYDNIE’S OWN WORDS ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE OF YOGA
My love affair with yoga began in 1978. I found a book in the library — actually, it fell off the shelf by my feet (honest!). I read the book and began to try the yoga poses. From the first time I attempted yoga, I felt like I had “come home”.
I practiced on my own and took a class when I was a student at the University of Connecticut. Then in 1984 I found Kripalu Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Paul and I visited for a “Welcome Weekend” in 1984 and returned whenever possible after that. I will be forever grateful for the wonderful teachers and the supportive, loving atmosphere there as well as the transformational power of Kripalu Yoga.
In 1987 after I completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work I spent a month at Kripalu and became a Certified Teacher. Yoga had changed my life in almost miraculous ways, and I wanted to share it with other people. I traveled around with my boom box and mat for several years. Then in 1992 I opened a small yoga studio. We outgrew that place in less than 2 years. In 1994 we moved to our present location, and I decided to be a full time yoga teacher. That was one of the best and most important decisions I ever made!
